We moved the site off Cargo Builder onto a modern stack — pulling out the builder's limits and delivering fast interactions, responsive typography, and headless CMS-driven content management. The site looks premium, feels smooth, and no longer waits on developers for updates.
Movement digital is a portfolio website built around visual presentation. Visitors come to feel the studio's level fast — through case studies, graphics, animation, and page rhythm — and then move on to contact. The previous version ran on Cargo Builder: fast to launch, but over time it grew the typical problems of a no-code platform. Complex interactions became difficult, responsiveness slipped, UX consistency across screens was hard to hold, and every change turned into a sequence of manual steps. We relaunched the site as a managed system — style and atmosphere preserved at the core, but now on a technically stable and scalable foundation.
Movement digital is a creative web design studio and production agency with offices on both coasts, in Los Angeles and New York. The team builds bespoke brand strategies, user-centered websites, and visual storytelling for fashion, lifestyle, and tech. The founder, Valerie, came in with a clear brief: the site had to feel stylish and premium from the very first screen — in the hover effects, the page transitions, the responsive behavior. Our job was to take the platform to a point where creativity no longer hits the limits of a builder, while UX stays stable on real devices.
Cargo Builder limitations
The project had to move past Cargo's limits and deliver proper responsive typography, image control, managed transitions, and case-study interactions.
Instant first screen
The site lives on media and visuals. LCP had to come down, and the moments where a visitor waits on previews, carousels, and effects had to go away.
Hover logic
The UX requirement was specific: hovering over a case or carousel highlights the related categories, making the structure of the portfolio readable at a glance.
De-blur on hover effect
Blurred previews snapping into focus on hover had to look polished without hurting performance — especially on weaker devices.
Page transitions
Cargo produced visible flicker between sections like Production and Studio. Transitions had to feel smooth without breaking SEO.
Clickable zones and links
On the landing page, some text blocks were rendered as images, but Email and Instagram still had to be real, clickable, and naturally integrated.
Content manageability
Cases, blocks, media, and copy all had to be updated regularly. The whole structure had to move into a headless CMS so the team could maintain the premium presentation on its own.
We rebuilt the site in Next.js as a fast visual engine with controlled animations and media loading, and moved all content and case structure into a headless CMS — giving the studio the style, the speed, and full control over updates, without the builder in the way.
Migration from Cargo to Next.js with a component-based section system
We assembled the site as a set of reusable building blocks — cases, grids, carousels, text sections, CTAs — so the design stays consistent and new pages slot together without manual layout work.
Category ↔ case hover interface
Hovering over a specific case or carousel highlights the related categories — and the other way around — turning the portfolio into a more intuitive navigation system.
De-blur hover for case previews without FPS loss
The blur-to-sharp effect ships without lag. Image quality is controlled, preview sizes are right, the styles and animations are tuned, and the touch-device path falls back cleanly.
Smooth transitions between sections
Page transitions were configured so navigation feels cohesive and premium — no flicker, no full reload of the heavy sections — while keeping SEO-friendly rendering intact.
Content management through a headless CMS
We moved cases, media, copy, categories, and contact blocks into the CMS with a clean data model, so updates don't disturb the live behavior of the site.
Clickable email and Instagram as proper interactive elements
Wherever action was needed, text-baked-into-images was replaced with real clickable links — with proper hover and active states, and accessible by default.
Performance as a baseline requirement
We tuned media loading and bundle behavior with the right priorities, lazy loading, and code splitting, so the first screen opens fast even on mobile.
We started with a technical and UX audit, documenting the moments of slowdown, identifying the blocks that overloaded the first screen, isolating what was causing flicker between sections, and checking how carousels and hover effects behaved across different screens. At the same time, we locked down the non-negotiable stylistic attributes that had to survive the migration intact.
+5 Resource
The redesigned site picked up positive feedback from the target audience immediately. It turned into a showcase that holds attention and walks visitors toward contact — while the team can update cases and pages on their own.
