We rebuilt the site from scratch on a modern stack, moved content management into Directus, and gave the team full control over pages, stories, media, and product content without relying on developers. The result was a cleaner structure, consistent performance, and a solid foundation for SEO growth.
BeBlended was born from the founder's own experience: finding professionals who truly understood afro-curly hair was far harder than it should have been. That gap became the foundation for a service connecting clients with stylists who specialize in afro-curly hair. Over time, the project evolved beyond a marketplace into an all-in-one platform that helps independent Black hairstylists grow and manage their businesses. The public website had to communicate that evolution clearly — bringing together the marketplace, the community, and the business tools into one coherent story while supporting user acquisition, partner outreach, and media visibility.
Aileen Agada-Davidson is a Canada-based entrepreneur building a product at the intersection of community and business tools. She needed a website that presents BeBlended as both a mature brand and a cohesive product — clearly communicating its mission, supporting future growth, and giving the team full control over content management. The project already had a public growth story behind it, including fundraising pitches, community events, the marketplace launch, business-tool releases, and media coverage. One of the key goals was to turn that history into a clear, structured, and easily manageable content system.
A clear product story
The site had to explain the evolution of the product so that a new visitor would grasp the platform's purpose, value, and possible use cases within 30–60 seconds.
Content scale
Events, stories, media features, product updates, direction pages — all of it changes regularly. The site needed a headless content model that would scale cleanly without devolving into chaos.
Media-heavy presentation
The site relies on photography, large sections, and emotionally rich storytelling — and still had to stay fast on mobile and hold strong PageSpeed scores under that weight.
Different traffic intents
The page structure had to work for media visitors, for stylists, and for clients searching for a specialist. Clarity and intuition were non-negotiable.
Correct indexing
The redesign couldn't damage search visibility, so the project required clean URLs, metadata, canonicals, redirect logic, sitemaps, and structured markup where it made sense.
A managed back office
The team needed clear responsibility boundaries — who edits pages, who handles media, who publishes events, who approves the important changes.
We rebuilt BeBlended as a headless platform for content and growth. Directus became the managed back office for pages, sections, the timeline, media blocks, stories, and product directions. Next.js became the fast front-end with a component system, SEO-friendly rendering, and controlled handling of imagery.
Managed content skeleton in Directus
We modeled the content types for pages, sections, the product-history timeline, events, media features, Business Tools blocks, FAQ, and the supporting dictionaries — so updates no longer require code changes.
Next.js frontend
We built the pages from reusable blocks — Hero, value props, timeline, testimonials, community, product modules — so new landing pages and structural changes could be assembled fast, with no hand-coded layouts.
Performance for media-heavy content
We configured image optimization, correct formats and sizes, loading priorities for the first screen, and lazy-loading where it actually helps — so the site stayed fast on mobile under real content load.
Landing pages for different audiences
We split the page logic by intent: people looking for a stylist, stylists looking for tools and support, and partners or media looking for story and credibility. Traffic lands directly in the right context.
SEO foundation and migration
We configured metadata, headings, sitemap, robots, canonical logic, and redirects from legacy URLs so the relaunch wouldn't reset the site's organic visibility or break social shares.
Editorial control for the team
We set up roles in Directus and turned on revision history for the critical pages, so edits stay controlled and mistakes can be rolled back in seconds.
We started by defining how people actually arrive on the site and what they need to grasp within the first minute. Three core paths surfaced: users looking for an afro-curly specialist, stylists looking for tools and support, and partners or media who care about the story and scale. In the same pass, we stripped out the blocks that looked great but didn't move anyone forward.
+1 Resource
The site stopped being a beautiful but awkward destination and turned into a managed growth tool. The team updates content on its own, pages open faster, and visitors get to the "what is BeBlended and where do I click next" answer much sooner.
